Hi there! And welcome to my website.

My name is Yu Ra (yes, there are two parts to my first name), also known as knitboop online, and I am a knitter, crocheter, spinner, knitwear designer, and researcher of online crafting communities.
I first began designing in 2019, and design has given me a wonderfully creative outlet to exercise my brain and create things that are meaningful to me.
To that end, you'll see that many of my designs reference my Korean heritage, which I am learning to love and embrace.

I am also the hostess of the annual Quiet Queers Craftalong, an event that started to counter concerns about the corporate rainbow-washing of Pride events.
During the QQC, we encourage makers to create art using patterns and/or materials from queer makers and designers, highlight the phenomenal queer talent in our community, and support said makers, whether through direct purchases or increased exposure.

In my research, I study the intersections between online craft communities, community self-regulation, identity work, and feminist and queer theories.
I am currently working on my PhD at Indiana University (you may be able to recognize our beautiful campus in many of my photos).

Join me over at Instagram, or send me a ko-fi! Both are very much appreciated.
