Image: The image shows a bespectacled East Asian woman with with short, black and purple hair. She is looking down, wearing a multicolored shawl like a capelet over a white dress. The shawl is comprised of one skein of black yarn and one rainbow colored yarn dyed in a gradient.

Image: The image shows a large, symmetrical triangle shawl hung on two nails on a white wall. The shawl is comprised of one skein of black yarn and one rainbow colored yarn dyed in a soft gradient. The body of the shawl is mostly black, with rows of color peeking through, while the edges of the shawl feature a simple scalloped lace pattern that highlights the rainbow gradient.

Prismatic Shawl

The Prismatic Shawl is my design for Pride Month 2021. With the release of this pattern coinciding with the annual Quiet Queers Craft-along, I hope you will consider knitting a Prismatic Shawl of your own and connect with the queer making community.

The star of this collaboration with Kim Dyes Yarn is her Sock Blank dyed in the Macaron Gradient colorway! You may substitute this contrast color with any other gradient or variegated yarn, mini-skeins of your choosing, or even a solid that subtly contrasts against the main color.

The shawl is easily modified for whatever yarns you have on hand, and sections may be added and subtracted as you wish for a shawl that fits YOU.

For the month of June, 50% of all pattern proceeds will be donated to the Trevor Project, “the leading national organization providing crisis intervention and suicide prevention services to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer & questioning youth.”

DETAILS
Sizes: One size, but the pattern may easily be modified by adding or subtracting sections.

Yarn: 2 colors of fingering weight yarn.
C1: 400 yards
C2: 350 yards

Recommended Yarn: Sample is knit in Kim Dyes Yarn BFL Sock Base in Starstone (MC), and Kim Dyes Yarn Sock Blank in Macaron Gradient (CC).

If using stash yarns, please consider the fiber content and ply of your yarns. A plumper fingering weight yarn will result in a squisher shawl, while a sleeker yarn will result in a drapier fabric.

This pattern is designed to suit a wide variety of yarns, whether it be hand-spun or big box acrylic. It all depends on your personal preference and what you envision for the finished project!

Needles: Circular needles in US 6 (4.0mm).

Gauge: Gauge is not critical, but should approximate to 20 stitches and 46 rows after blocking for 4 inches squared in garter stitch, knit flat.

Errata: On page 3, after “Begin with Main Section, as follows:”, instructions should read:
”RS: K2, yo, k to m, m1R, sm, k1, sm, m1L, k until 2 sts remain, yo, k2”

Pay What You Choose: Financial accessibility is an important foundation of my design ethos. The prices for paid patterns are such that I am adequately compensated for a hopefully-sustainable design career. However, if you need, the following codes are available:
PatternsForAll1 : $2.00 off
PatternsForAll2 : $4.00 off
PatternsForAll 3 : $6.00 off
